Group Description
We read a play together, taking parts in a scene and then discussing it. After reading the play we watch a video of it. Currently we are reading the sequence of history plays from Richard II to Richard III. What we do next will be up to the group to decide. The aim of the group is to increase our knowledge and enjoyment of the plays.
Most people have encountered Shakespeare at school, but I have had members educated abroad, who have joined the class, two of whom did not have English as their first language. I encourage all members to join in reading but do not insist.
We do not use a specific text of a play. Single texts are usually easier to read from and have useful notes, but some members choose to use their copy of the complete works, and many texts can be borrowed from libraries, so cost is mainly a matter of choice.
We normally meet from 2.30 - 4.30pm though we tend to start at 2pm when watching videos.
